Because This Exist, That Exist.
“Because this exist, that exist, because this arises, that arises.” But what does this mean? It means that all concrete entities occur in accordance with various conditions, that they always happen based on conditions and never apart from or separate from such factors, and that all abstract entities have meaning because of their mutual relations. Accordingly, what is being said here is that there are no independent substantial entities—that is, no things exist by themselves.
—Opening the Hand of Thought
A collaborative exhibition with my brother Jerome, exploring the connections between our processes as image makers and creators. The work includes Jerome’s portfolio of commercial photography and my drawings.
Thematically I wanted to address the interconnectivity that constructs meaning between things. Images of masculinity and femininity, between a photograph and a drawing, between what is perceived and projected.
Dedicated to the memory of Jerome Diaz.
