The body of work presented in this group show is a direct result of an awakening to the powers of freedom. The 16 pieces presented, narrate the yearning to embody a freedom of stillness, rigour, responsibility, and self-discovery. Holding back from a representational expression of freedom, I sought the tension that arises before the ecstasy of liberation and rapture. I believe this approach can generate a type of freedom that is deep lasting and holistic.
Freedom is as much about liberation and the ability to choose as much as it is an invitation to truly discover who I am and to rejoice in the answer. The process of self discover consist mainly of stripping away the frameworks that have previously determined my identity: cultural, social, political, religious and even biological structures and definitions that shape how I have constructed my self. To remove, question or accept some of these structures is the practice of embracing freedom. The ability to strip away all context in order to find my own independent version of myself is the outcome of this exploration. The work captures insights that have occurred along the way.
