Like many of you, I have felt weighed down by the state of the world—the relentless tragedies. Overwhelmed and numb, I realized I had stopped painting for months. And with that, a part of me felt lost.

So I sat down to paint again. And to my surprise, what emerged were flowers.

I have never painted flowers before. But somehow, in this moment, they felt right—a small offering of beauty, a splash of color and joy amidst the darkness.

Then came a thought: I should paint more. Many more. 2,000, to be exact. A simple rebellion against despair.

As I embarked on this journey, I stumbled upon this haiku by Bashō:

spring winds
hoping the flowers burst
out in laughter

—1668

Each of these 2,000 flower paintings carries this haiku, a meditation on renewal, joy, and resilience.
