This piece is made of 100% hinoki bark pulp made by a local washi craftsman. When I first came across Hinoki bark pulp I fell in love with the texture and color. I added acrylic during the process of pouring the pulp into the frame. This made for some inconsistencies during the drying process and more so during the process of pulling the washi off the frame. The result made me realize that I was less interested in the perfection of washi and more into the capacity washi has to illicit an emotion. Similar to my drawings and paintings, washi can hold an imprint of emotions and feelings.
